In the 103rd running of the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, somebody will join the prestigious list of Indy 500 winners. That is, unless, somebody who already is among the list of Indy 500 winners takes another checkered flag at this year’s running of the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. For now, 72 names are on the all-time list of Indy 500 winners.

The current list of Indy 500 winners is topped by Will Power, who won last year’s IndyCar race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Of the last six Indy 500 winners, five are in the field for the 2019 edition of the race, meaning the chances of getting a repeat Indy 500 winner are high.

Get those milk bottles ready, because it is once again time for the legendary IndyCar Series event, the Indianapolis 500. The Memorial Day Weekend tradition will run for the 103rd time on Sunday afternoon.

Simon Pagenaud will be sitting in pole position at the Indy 500 for the first time in his career. Three-time pole sitter Ed Carpenter, Spencer Pigot and Ed Jones, who are all part of the Ed Carpenter racing team, will be sitting in the second, third and fourth positions, respectively.

Defending champion Will Power won’t be far behind them in the sixth position on the outside of the second row. IndyCar veteran Helio Castroneves, the only driver in the 33-person field to win multiple Indy 500 races, will have his sights set on trying to tie the record for most Indy 500 victories (four). Only three other drivers have previously accomplished the feat.

Storied Formula One driver Fernando Alonso is one of three entrants that failed to qualify. Six rookies are a part of the field, including 19-year-old Colton Herta, who will begin in the middle of the second row. Nine rookies have won the Indy 500, the most recent being Alexander Rossi in 2016.
